E-MarkIntroduction

According to the Economic Commission of Europe regulations and EU directives, vehicles and their related components, noises and exhaust gas into the European common market must be granted conformity certificate o ensure the products achieve basic certification requirements of traffic safety and environmental protection.

Since October 2002, according to EU Directive 72/245/EEC and requirements of amendment Directive 95/54/EC, all automotive electronic and electrical products are sold in Europe must pass e-Mark testing and certification and be affixed with “e” mark in order to get the permission of Customs of EU Members. Economic Commission of Europe (ECE) is an agency of United Nations, whose members are primarily European countries and some non-European countries, such as some African countries and Japan. But e-mark is based on the EU directives 2009/19/EC, which is more focus on the European common market. To sum up, E-mark is not mandatory for EU members to accepts, and e-mark is inverse with E-mark, members have to accept that.

Business Scope

Vehicle: motor vehicle with two/three wheels or above, such as car, truck, motor bicycle, bus, and vehicles intended for outside-road use.

Vehicle components: automotive lighting and bulb, sight glass of any kind, tyre, rim, brake, horn, burglary-resisting installation, safety belt, automotive glass, exhaust pipe, etc.

Separate units intended for vehicles: safety helmet, children's safety seats, separate electrical products, etc.

Since October 2002, vehicle, components and in-vehicle electronic devices are subject to mandatory EMC testing. When applied to electronic components, the self-declaration made according to EMC Directive 89/336/EEC was no longer valid and, instead, products sold in Europe must all meet the provisions of EMC Directive 95/54/EC. That is to say, all previously acquired CE EMC certificates for vehicle electronics and electronic components would not be valid since October, 2002. Manufacturers have to newly apply for E/e Mark for their products prior to selling them in Europe.
